Snooks
Aldeburgh's Top Dog with a penchant for dressing up!
MapAldeburgh’s famous pup called ‘Snooks’ lives alongside the yacht pond on Aldeburgh seafront. He comes with a lovely tale (and tail!) and loves putting a smile on folks’ faces, being regularly yarn-bombed since Christmas 2017. But who did he belong to? What hats does he wear? And is it true that he has a twin?

Snooks, The Houdini Hound of Aldeburgh Town
In 2003, some doggone dirty tricks saw Snooks go walkies. The hound had done a disappearing act from the side of the yacht pond and despite long searches, he was never to be seen again, until…
In 2021, he was spotted at a Lincoln antiques fair.
Snooks returned to tell the tale – only to find an imposter’s tail on her podium! So sorely missed, the townspeople had replaced him with a replica statue!

So is the Snooks who spends his days remembering his owners, eyeing up ice-creams and watching boats go by, the original Houdini hound – or his alter ego? And if where is his twin hiding in Aldeburgh and why?
Go walkies and you’ll find out all the answers.
Walkies with Snooks
The Town & Country Heritage Walk in The Pocket Guide to Aldeburgh is the ideal way to get introduced to Snooks (x 2!) and his environment. Enjoy!
The memorial inscription on the podium beneath his paws reads:
Snooks – This memorial was erected by the people of this borough to Dr ‘Robin’ P.M. Acheson who cared for them from 1931 to 1959 and to Nora his wife who died in 1981 whilst still caring.
