Snape Marshes Nature Reserve
Bridge Road, Snape, IP17 1SP
Website MapSnape Marshes, Snape Warren and the reedbeds and mudflats flanking the Sailors’ Path on its final furlong before Snape Maltings, rank amongst Suffolk’s most inspirational riverside scenery. Experience Sir Benjamin Britten’s ‘Curlew River’, painted in his musical masterpieces and pictured in John Piper’s stained glass window in Aldeburgh Church.

The 30 hectare Snape Marshes site adjacent to the River Alde, Snape village and Snape Maltings includes a huge range of habitats supporting an unusual collection of wildlife including reptiles, invertebrates, mammals and birds. It is easily accessible from Snape Bridge, the Maltings site and the Sailors’ Path waymarked trail from Aldeburgh.
Take the binoculars to spot the tiniest of warblers, plus barn owl, hobby marsh harrier and dunlin. Look out for dragonflies, otter and all four species of reptiles to be found in Suffolk – adder, common lizard, grass snake and slow worms.
