Founded in 1851, the RNLI Aldeburgh Lifeboat Station has been supporting maritime safety and the community for well over a century. Visitors are welcome to see inside the boathouse through the windows of the external viewing gallery. Tours for groups may be possible by appointment.

  • Many medals have been awarded to brave crewmen over the years
  • The lifeboat shop stocks lifesaving souvenirs, cards and gifts and is operated by volunteers who are members of the Guild

Unless by appointment, the Lifeboat Station remains closed to visitors for the time being. The boathouse can be viewed from the gallery at the front adjacent to the shop.

The new Aldeburgh lifeboat boathouse dates from 1994 and is constructed on the site of the previous lifeboat house. There is also a tractor house and workshop. Aldeburgh lifeboat is a B-Class Lifeboat – B-949  ‘Ralph. An in-shore lifeboat – ‘Susan Scott’ D-808 – remains operational with a fully trained crew, launching off the beach or into the river at Slaughden down the slipway, courtesy of Aldeburgh Yacht Club.
