Originally the site of Aldeburgh’s Tudor port, RSPB North Warren Nature Reserve is a real oasis of calm right on the town’s doorstep. Located just across Thorpe Road from Aldeburgh’s famous ‘Scallop’, its watery marshlands make it a firm flightpath favourite with migrating geese and has a number of viewing platforms.

North Warren RSPB Nature Reserve

Species to look out for:

  • White-fronted geese; Tundra Bean geese
  • Marsh harriers; lapwing, dunlin
  • Warblers; bullfinches, yellowhammers, linnets, bearded tits.

Accessible viewing platforms near Thorpe Road car park give good views of the water and south and north marshes, site of Aldeburgh’s Tudor port.

The Pocket Guide to Aldeburgh’s Port to Port Heritage Walk is a great way to combine a visit to North Warren with a visit to the bird-rich saltings at Slaughden – with plenty of Aldeburgh to join the dots in between!
