Where to Park in Aldeburgh

The map shows key public car parks in /around the town centre and seafront and near the library, at King’s Field (scenic footpath gives access to the town). With the exception of the car park at Aldeburgh Parish Church, wherever parking is chargeable, it is payable in cash or via East Suffolk Council’s RingGo app.

Free to download, the ‘RingGo’ parking service app from East Suffolk Council helps locate parking spaces at selected town centre car parks. Pay online for parking sessions using the app, or to extend your ticket time (subject to local restrictions). Car registration number and payment details are required for sign up.

Parking for larger vehicles and campervans. These vehicles can access both the Slaughden and Thorpe Road car parks. Please note designated parking areas and restrictions.

Travelling to Aldeburgh

From the south: A12 (from Ipswich /London) via A1094 from Stratford St Andrew/Farnham/ Friday Street.

From the north: A12 (from Lowestoft) via A1094 from Stratford St Andrew/Farnham/ Friday Street.

From the coast: Along B1353 /Thorpe Road from Thorpeness.

Local bus services operate between Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, as well as the market towns of Leiston, Saxmundham, Framlingham, Halesworth, Beccles and Woodbridge where there are onward connections.

Saxmundham, Darsham (A12),Halesworth and Beccles all have train stations with services to Lowestoft and Ipswich and connecting services to Norwich, Cambridge and London.

Regular Greater Anglia service to Ipswich with connections to London (Liverpool Street), and to Lowestoft with connections to Norwich.

Aldeburgh is only a short detour from Regional Cycle Routes 41 and 42 and the new round-Suffolk cycle route, The Wolf Way. 

Cycle Info & Rides

Regional Route 41 includes Snape, and connects to National Cycle Route 1 which crosses Suffolk from Felixstowe to Beccles via Halesworth. The Sustrans website gives access to national and regional cycle network details and mapping.

SUSTRANS

Cycle racks in Aldeburgh are located adjacent to the Moot Hall on the seafront and on the High Street.

Aldeburgh is on the the fully waymarked Suffolk Coast Path and the King Charles III England Coast Path. It is close to the waymarked Sandlings Walk which crosses the forests and heathlands of East Suffolk from Ipswich to Southwold.

The historic Sailors’ Path follows the River Alde from Snape Maltings to Hazlewood Marshes on the outskirts of Aldeburgh. There are also fully waymarked Station to Station linear Walks from railway stations which can link to the town.

Please make contact with relevant authorities and clubs with regards to sailing, boating and mooring on the Alde around Slaughden and other local villages near Aldeburgh.

There is limited on street parking, with time restrictions in a number of locations close to key places to shop, visit or stay.

  • By the model yacht pond (Market Cross Place/ Crabbe Street)

No – but you can stay there! The exterior of the impressive Martello Tower CC and its ‘moat’ near Slaughden Quay can be viewed from most sides and at quite close quarters, but please respect the privacy of its residents.

The Martello Tower is owned and managed by the Landmark Trust and is let for self-catering holiday stays (sleeps 4) .
