A Long History of Welcoming Four-legged Friends
Dog-friendly Aldeburgh
Four legged friends and their well-behaved humans are most welcome in Aldeburgh. It’s an ideal spot to find dog-friendly accommodation on the Suffolk Coast, or enjoy a meal out in dog-friendly places to eat with great food and real character.
Visiting Aldeburgh with a Dog?
Whenever you visit, there are always plenty of great walkies opportunities, and the historic town has many dog-friendly places to eat, drink and stay too. Look out for doggie ice-creams, shops selling great dog-togs and all sorts of treats for canine companions.

Dogs just love watching, enjoying and feeling a part of things and Aldeburgh has so many outdoor, dog-friendly places to share. There are always shingle stretches where hounds can bound and splash about to their doggy hearts’ content. Beach restrictions in Aldeburgh along the main seafront areas are however in place during the summer (details below). Nature reserves may also have restrictions, a dogs-on-leads only policy, or even a no dogs policy, to support and protect birds and wildlife.

Dogs on the Beach
Restrictions regarding dogs on the beach are in place from 01 May to 31 September. Please respect them. Dogs are permitted on the beach and off lead outside these areas. Outside peak season, dogs can access the length of the beach.
Whenever and wherever you visit with your dog in Aldeburgh, please bring poo bags to clean up after your dog. Poo bins are provided for your convenience.
Aldeburgh welcomes well-behaved dogs and responsible dog owners. Thank you for your cooperation and have a great time together!

Walkies!
Whether there are little legs or longer ones in mix, a Dachshund or a Great Dane, you’re sure to find great walks to suit around the Suffolk Coast and Aldeburgh. In town, you’ll find the footpaths generally well-signposted, so please stick to marked paths. It’s important to be aware that where footpaths cross grazing marshes, walkers may be met by inquisitive livestock.

In town as well as in the countryside, please be a responsible dog-walker.
- Be considerate to those living in, working in and enjoying the countryside.
- Leave gates and property as you find them.
- Follow local signs and keep to marked paths unless wider access is available.
- Always keep dogs under control and in sight.
- Clean up your dog’s waste – bag it, bin it or take it home.

Leave only pawprints
It’s official. As signs near the tennis courts recount, Aldeburgh does not have a resident population of Poop Fairies! Sorry. Dog-owners, please it’s down to you to take on the role.
Wherever you and your four-legged friend wander, it’s essential to clean up after your dog and use the many disposal bins conveniently installed throughout the town. Thank you.
