For the best beach time - Need to know info & more
Aldeburgh Beach
Two miles of shingle beach stretch from heritage town Aldeburgh to Thorpeness on the Suffolk coast horizon. Nothing interrupts the view, except a curious, mighty seashell, stranded above the shoreline. At pebble level, vegetation has taken hold here and there, from yellow-horned poppies to bird’s foot trefoil… or perhaps a cluster of high-rise hollyhocks.
In Aldeburgh traditional seaside experiences are infused with something deliciously special and uniquely local – just like Aldeburgh’s gin! You’ll find the distillery on the seafront, but that’s so definitely not all!
What’s on your Bucket List?

Simple Pleasures Together…
Isn’t that the stuff that memories are made of ?
- Put a toe in the water
- Fly a kite
- Sail away (on the model yacht pond)
- Hunt for amber
- Tuck into the freshest fish & chips
- Lick a well-deserved ice cream
- Watch the waves sitting on the giant ‘Scallop’
Enjoy Safely & Responsibly
Please don’t encourage Aldeburgh’s winged raiders by feeding them. Guard treats and picnics closely too, and keep a beady eye out for would-be invaders. Seagulls everywhere are renowned for being a bit troublesome. Aldeburgh seagulls are regrettable no exception.
Tread carefully to protect beach wildlife and the rare plants on the vegetated shingle.
Swimmers should remain mindful that there is no lifeguard on patrol along the beaches at Aldeburgh at any time of the year.

Dogs on the Beach
Please respect the restrictions regarding dogs on the beach which are in force from 01 May to 31 September. Dogs are permitted on the beach and off lead outside these areas and the length of the beach outside peak season.
Whenever and wherever you visit with your dog in Aldeburgh, please bring poo bags with you, clean up after your dog and use the poo bins provided.
Thank you.
Aldeburgh welcomes well-behaved dogs and responsible dog owners.
Dogs in AldeburghBeach-side Paths & Parking
It’s not surprising that a seaside heritage town like Aldeburgh with its seafront villas and cottages from across the centuries, wasn’t designed for cars. The tiny lanes perpendicular to Crag Path ‘prom’, the pedestrian only alleyway-style ‘scores’ and the elegant little squares are from a different era of travel – and that’s all part of the Aldeburgh charm.
Please park pretty, respect residences and restrictions, and use the car parks provided.

Taste this Aldeburgh Place
The sight of fishermen hauling their boats up the beach to sort, prepare, smoke, and sell their catch from huts on the shingle is a rare one along the English coast these days. In Aldeburgh it happens almost every day, weather and catch permitting.
Worked up an appetite from time out on the beach? You never have to go far to find something fresh and flavoursome in Aldeburgh!

Why does Aldeburgh’s historic Moot Hall sit so close to the beach and where did the rest of the marketplace go? Was Martello Tower CC really built on the edge of nowhere?
The Aldeburgh you see today is just half of the story.
